A 29-year-old New York man is dead following his involvement in a car accident on I-684. Reports from the New York State Police say the fatal crash happened at around 12 a.m. and involved two vehicles. Another person received minor injuries, but was released after a brief hospitalization. The violent accident left one lane of the highway closed as emergency workers cleaned debris from the roadway. The lane reopened approximately five hours after the crash.
Police say the car crash occurred when the victim's car slammed into another vehicle from behind, pushing it into grass median where it came to rest. The victim's vehicle then veered across three lanes of traffic and passed into an embankment. The car then collided with several trees, splintering it into three pieces and throwing the victim from the vehicle. He was reportedly wearing a seat beat at the time of the crash, but the force of collision was still sufficient to launch him from his car and leave him with massive head trauma and other severe injuries. He was pronounced dead at the crash site. Police claim the victim was speeding immediately prior to the crash, though it is unclear exactly how fast he was traveling.
The driver of the second vehicle, who is in her early 30s, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital to receive treatment. She was later released.
